Whether it’s a new relationship, or you’ve been together for many years, there are ways that you can spice up your Valentine’s Day without a lot of effort or money. It’s a holiday that comes around every year, but these tips will help make sure that this year is extra special.
- Write a love letter, not a Hallmark card
Add sentiment to the evening by giving your significant other a handwritten love letter, instead of a card bought from a store. Your partner will appreciate the uniqueness of the act, and you can express your true feelings. Even if you’re not a good writer, a decently written card will be much more appreciated than a mass-produced card, which will truly make your special someone feel loved.
- Make an intimate meal
Instead of trying to make a reservation at an overpriced restaurant, prepare an intimate meal at home for just the two of you. Even more special, make it together, for a fun activity, complete with some flirtation during, that will set the mood for the whole night.
- Create a picnic
What better way to enjoy that home-cooked meal than as a picnic? Especially if you prepare finger foods together, then enjoy them intimately on the floor, with blankets and pillows.
- Use candles for the night
Set the mood further with candles in as many rooms as you possibly can. Dinner over candlelight is much more special than another meal at your dining room table with the lights on. If you’re doing the tip above though, don’t put any candles on the floor!
- Make a mix tape
Well, in 2016, you probably won’t make an actual tape, but will create a mix CD, or playlist on your iPod. Either way, pick your favourite romantic songs that you both enjoy, or perhaps songs that have a special meaning to both of you (like the song you heard during your first dance together).
- Enjoy nature together
Walk or drive somewhere together to experience the beauty of nature, like a sunset in a park, or the stars at night outside of the city.
- Create a favourite drink together
Concoct some original creations together, to be enjoyed as your own unique cocktail. Make sure you write down the ingredients so you can recreate the drink every year on Valentine’s Day.
- Make handmade gifts
Handmade gifts are even more special than something bought at a store. Try writing down all of the reasons you love your partner, or putting them on slips of paper into a jar that you decorate, which your significant other can look at when they’re feeling down.
